A Member of Provincial Parliament In Canada Introduces Bill To Ban All Asbestos Products.

Countries across the globe have been cracking down on the use of materials which include asbestos fibers. This is, in large part, because of the hazards of asbestos and because the symptoms of asbestos diseases may not develop for many years after the initial asbestos exposure, making it nearly impossible to track down where you were infected. Because the symptoms often take years to develop, you may be living with mesothelioma, a fatal type of cancer, for years before noticing anything wrong. Due to the severity of the illnesses in asbestos cases, it is important for victims to turn to an experienced asbestos personal injury attorney expert, here at the Law Offices of Gilbert R. Hoy, Jr. and Affiliates. We have decades of experience and will help guide you through the complicated litigation process. Our attorneys have recovered millions of dollars for our Massachusetts clients.

Bob Baily, a Member of Provincial Parliament from Sarnia-Lambton, Canada, has introduced a bill to ban any and all sales of asbestos in Ontario, Canada. Originally, this bill had received a second reading at Queen’s Park, but it was removed from the agenda last year when the legislature was prolonged. Although many running for federal government positions had promised to ban asbestos throughout the 2015 election, MPP Bailey has yet to see any ban.

Bailey does admit that Canada, as a whole, stopped mining asbestos in 2011, but during the same time, the amount of asbestos imports doubled. It is believed that between 2011 and 2016, nearly $8.2 million was spent on materials which imported asbestos into Canada. Bailey’s bill would also create a registry of all provincially owned or leased buildings that contain asbestos.
