An Australian builder is facing a $1,500 fine after allegedly dumping 12 sheets of asbestos fencing near a local school instead of properly disposing of it.
The asbestos was found dumped near the school in late August and government officials identified the builder after help from the public and the media.
A family was walking their dog when they came across the hazardous material, which was dumped in a park across the street from the school. The materials were found quickly, but officials say that children easily could have found the asbestos sheets first and then broken them, which would have caused the fibers to become airborne.
