New Jersey Court Awards $117 Million To Man Who Developed Mesothelioma After Using Johnson and Johnson Talcum Powder Products.

Mesothelioma is a terminal form of cancer. This deadly disease can be contracted through exposure to asbestos. The longer and more exposure you have with a product containing asbestos, the more likely you are to contract and develop mesothelioma. Because symptoms may not develop for years after exposure, it is important for potential victims to turn to an experienced asbestos personal injury attorney expert here at our Boston, Massachusetts law firm. Our Boston injury lawyer specialists have decades of experience helping our clients through complicated litigation.

Stephen Lanzo and his wife have been awarded over $100 million in damages by a jury in New Jersey. It was alleged by the plaintiff that he developed mesothelioma through his use of asbestos-containing Johnson & Johnson (“J&J”) talc powder products. A jury found J&J to be liable for 70% of the injury and found that the supplier Imerys Talc was responsible for the remaining 30%. The award was split into two categories: the first, $37 million was awarded in compensatory damages; second $80 million for damages.

Just last fall, a California jury found in favor of J&J, holding them not responsible for causing the plaintiff’s cancers. In a similar event, two lawsuits in the state of Washington were dropped prior to trial due to a lack of evidence.  A spokesperson for the company believes that they will appeal the decision.

A Member of Provincial Parliament In Canada Introduces Bill To Ban All Asbestos Products.

Countries across the globe have been cracking down on the use of materials which include asbestos fibers. This is, in large part, because of the hazards of asbestos and because the symptoms of asbestos diseases may not develop for many years after the initial asbestos exposure, making it nearly impossible to track down where you were infected. Because the symptoms often take years to develop, you may be living with mesothelioma, a fatal type of cancer, for years before noticing anything wrong. Due to the severity of the illnesses in asbestos cases, it is important for victims to turn to an experienced asbestos personal injury attorney expert, here at the Law Offices of Gilbert R. Hoy, Jr. and Affiliates. We have decades of experience and will help guide you through the complicated litigation process. Our attorneys have recovered millions of dollars for our Massachusetts clients.

Bob Baily, a Member of Provincial Parliament from Sarnia-Lambton, Canada, has introduced a bill to ban any and all sales of asbestos in Ontario, Canada. Originally, this bill had received a second reading at Queen’s Park, but it was removed from the agenda last year when the legislature was prolonged. Although many running for federal government positions had promised to ban asbestos throughout the 2015 election, MPP Bailey has yet to see any ban.

Bailey does admit that Canada, as a whole, stopped mining asbestos in 2011, but during the same time, the amount of asbestos imports doubled. It is believed that between 2011 and 2016, nearly $8.2 million was spent on materials which imported asbestos into Canada. Bailey’s bill would also create a registry of all provincially owned or leased buildings that contain asbestos.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit On Behalf Of Mesothelioma Victim Settles Five Years After Filing.

People who are exposed to asbestos, either through direct or second-hand exposure, are at risk for inhaling harmful mesothelioma-causing fibers, which is the leading cause of lung disease in the United States. Asbestosis and mesothelioma are developed by breathing in loose asbestos particles from the air, which results in scar tissue formation inside the lungs. Often, the symptoms of the disease may not develop for more than twenty years after the initial asbestos exposure. Due to the symptoms occurring years or even decades after exposure, it is important for victims to turn to an experienced asbestos personal injury attorney expert here at the Law Offices of Gilbert R. Hoy, Jr. and Affiliates to help guide them through the complicated litigation process inherent in these cases.

A wrongful death lawsuit filed nearly five years ago by a woman on her late husband’s behalf came to a close Thursday in St. Lawrence County, New York Supreme Court with a confidential settlement. The lawsuit was filed by Patricia A. Langevin, following the September 21, 2013 death of her 80 year-old husband, Frank P. Langevin. The suit was brought against foreign and domestic companies, including R.T. Vanderbilt Co. Inc., which has a mineral division manufacturing facility, and Newton Falls LLC.

Mr. Langevin had worked at Jones & Laughlin Steel Co. in Star Lake, New York. According to the complaint filed with the St. Lawrence County Court Clerk’s office, the asbestos victim died from mesothelioma as a result of his exposure to products that contained asbestos and asbestiform fiber which were distributed through the named parties.
