Stephen Lanzo and his wife have been awarded over $100 million in damages by a jury in New Jersey. It was alleged by the plaintiff that he developed mesothelioma through his use of asbestos-containing Johnson & Johnson (“J&J”) talc powder products. Just last fall, a California jury found in favor of J&J, holding them not responsible for causing the plaintiff’s cancers. In a similar event, two lawsuits in the state of Washington were dropped prior to trial due to a lack of evidence.  A spokesperson for the company believes that they will appeal the decision.

Bob Baily, a Member of Provincial Parliament from Sarnia-Lambton, Canada, has introduced a bill to ban any and all sales of asbestos in Ontario, Canada. Originally, this bill had received a second reading at Queen’s Park, but it was removed from the agenda last year when the legislature was prolonged. Although many running for federal government positions had promised to ban asbestos throughout the 2015 election, MPP Bailey has yet to see any ban.

A wrongful death lawsuit filed nearly five years ago by a woman on her late husband’s behalf came to a close Thursday in St. Lawrence County, New York Supreme Court with a confidential settlement. The lawsuit was filed by Patricia A. Langevin, following the September 21, 2013 death of her 80 year-old husband, Frank P. Langevin. Mr. Langevin had worked at Jones & Laughlin Steel Co. in Star Lake, New York.
